Our Camp
Philosophy
From our inception in 1958, providing “A Vacation with a Purpose” has been the guiding philosophy for the programming and the heart of the SSCYC camp program. Our “vacation with a purpose” integrating the daily lives of teenagers and the challenges or questions they may have with the enjoyment of a break, combining leisure with meaningful experiences.
We strive to offer an environment for teenagers that allows them to be comfortable as individuals and as group members. We believe that involving our Campers in a program that encourages conversation about their lives, their challenges and their joys will lead them to an understanding of their value and worth as individuals and as important parts of a whole.
We all know the challenges that young people face in the world today. Our Camp program allows a place of freedom to be the individual they have been created to be and to share their questions and thoughts, their doubts, their fears, and their strengths to develop positive peer groups throughout their teenage years.
We take this responsibility seriously as member churches. Each day we offer times of meditation and worship in the Congregational tradition that allows questions of faith to be asked and explored, guided by the values of love, inclusion and trust, reflecting acceptance and respect to any faith community membership (or none) to which our campers nay belong.
We appreciate the trust parents place in us each summer, and we take our responsibility for each camper’s experience very seriously. Accordingly, our primary focus is maintaining a safe and respectful environment that encourages both personal growth and creates an unforgettable summer experience.
