Hello everyone! My name is Colin McPherson a 2nd year staffer and 6 year camper at camp writing about our beautiful Thursday at Camp Robindel. Continuing on our ongoing theme of elements throughout the week today we focused on the wind. The wind can be many things, it can be something dangerous like a tornado, chaotic like a sudden breeze that knocks the papers out of your hand, or refreshing like a cool breeze off the lake during a hot day at camp. Throughout the day though, we also took time to reflect on what the wind represents, whether it be the change in our lives or the unpredictability of each day.
The day started like any other, the Wakeup Crew came around and woke everyone up for breakfast where we had a hearty breakfast of cheese quesadillas, eggs, home fries, and sausage. We then wandered outside for morning watch where campers reflected on change and adapting to their evolving circumstances.
Following that calm morning we ramped it up a bit for the morning program based off of the show Survivor. Campers competed in stations near the water in an event that culminated in an incredible relay race that included puzzles, bottle flipping and army crawling.
Lunch was a great meal filled with singing and dancing. The offering was a delicious pizza, with cheese and meat lovers being the flavors of choice. This was of course followed up by spree time, where the waterfront and shade offered campers breaks from the sun. Other options included arts and crafts, kubb, volleyball, and spikeball.
Campers then moved on to small groups, talking about the themes of the day. They also made and decorated wind chimes. Today, however was a special day in morning group, our senior class took the lead with our 6th and 7th grade morning groups, continuing a proud tradition of allowing our campers to take on roles of leadership within camp.
After morning groups, and a little bit of free time to help the campers catch their breath (and a popsicle), we headed over to chapel. With a beautiful message by Eddie Rosado and a tremendous amount of help planning by our 8th and 9th grade campers chapel was a resounding success. We sung and danced to He’s Got the Whole World in His Hands, Put A Little Love in Your Heart, and Open the Eyes of My Heart.
After chapel we went to eat dinner, having a fabulous Greek wrap with vanilla ice cream for desert. Throughout dinner, everyone was still singing and dancing the whole time, but what dominated the conversation was everyone’s anticipation for the night’s program, The Variety Show.
Hosted by our first year staff members, the show featured sketch comedy, emotional singing performances from our senior class, and even original songs. Set against a beautiful backdrop with the sun setting over the lake and even fireworks making surprise appearances, the show was beautiful, moving, and hilarious.
Finally we ended the night under the stars with vespers. Featuring a beautiful message by counselor Becky Long about dealing with uncertainty and impending change. Campers then returned home to get rest for tomorrow, for which we have yet another incredible program planned. We are looking forward to telling you about it, and we are looking forward to experiencing it with our wonderful campers.
